The court fell silent as the shuttlecock soared back and forth between MJ Tolentino of CTNHS and Mark Sheandrei Tivoli of SVSF in the elimination round of the 3rd Annual Cluster 7 Boys Badminton Chairman’s Cup.w

It wasn’t just a match—it was a clash of determination, skill. Officiated by Ma’am Alma of Macabebe NHS, the young athletes gave everything on the court.
Tivoli, a grade 9 player, was chasing his first gold. With only three days of formal training before the Semi-Final but four years of experience playing, he’s built on dedication. Morning jogs, leg workouts, and relentless practice shaped his aggressive style as an attacker and smasher. “Salamat sa supporter ko, sila ang nagbigay ng lakas ko,” he said, grateful to those who push him forward. His sights are set on the Palarong Pambansa, and inspiration comes from his girlfriend and his Grandmother. Tivoli came out chill, constantly testing his opponent, searching for weaknesses with bold, fearless moves.
Tolentino, on the other hand, was the made patience and strategy. His focus was on stamina and control—outlasting opponents and executing smart plays. Inspired by his older brother, a former SVSF player, Tolentino stayed composed, waiting for the perfect moments to strike. While Tivoli’s smashes were forceful, Tolentino’s steadiness and consistent performance ultimately made the difference
The first set was a tense battle, with Tolentino edge it 21–18. The second set was even challenge finishing 21–19 in his favor. It wasn’t flashy —it was calculated. By maintaining control and letting Tivoli exhaust himself, Tolentino earned his place in the finals.
Though the scoreboard leaned toward Tolentino, both players emerged as victors. Tivoli gained invaluable experience to fuel future wins, and Tolentino advanced, carrying the lessons of this challenging match. Ultimately, the game show everyone watching that heart, effort, and growth matter just as much as the trophy.
